Importance of Keyword Research
One of the best media carriers to use in the promotion of one’s product and/or service is the internet. Because many people from varied sectors and age groups use this medium daily for different reasons – from information, entertainment, to product/service search – there is a likelihood of being able to reach out to as many potential customers/clients through it. However, the internet is field with thousands, or even millions, of websites containing a multitude of topics. How could you, then, as internet marketer, possibly compete with the thousand others? Keyword research is the key.
In search engine optimization, it is the general practice of potential customers to do the searching. Therefore, as marketer, you have to make the effort to reach out and help the searchers find you easily, and one of the ways you can accomplish this is by choosing an appropriate keyword or keyword phrases for your website.
Keywords research provides the basic element in searching for information, either on the internet or in every other medium. Internet searchers, particularly, enter keyword or keyword phrases into a search engine to obtain the information they need.
Conducting proper keyword research will also generates keywords which provide the identification of a website. In fact, the visibility of an internet marketer’s website relies heavily on it. A poorly chosen keyword or keyword phrases will not help the website gain exposure. Therefore, in order to achieve visibility and increased traffic to your website, it is necessary to pick a unique and specific keyword that best capture the searcher and directly points him to your website. In choosing the right keyword, however, it is necessary to understand first the three kinds of keywords, namely: the primary, secondary, and tertiary keyword.
Primary keyword or keyword phrase is the most important kind and the one you use before the rest of the keywords. The entire content of your web page should discuss this keyword at length, or at least four to five times in the article. Primary keyword should appear as the first word of the first sentence of the first paragraph. It may also work best if you mention it at the end of the sentence. This should be so because in search engine optimization, the first word is the most important. Primary keyword should also be presented in your article’s file name, title, and within the content of the page. The first word tells the search engine what your web page is all about, and to what subject it should respond.
Meanwhile, a secondary keyword or keyword phrase is that which can be altered to fit into a sentence, and you use it after the primary keyword. Secondary keyword should be mentioned only once in the article. Although it may not always be necessary to use a secondary keyword, it can help increase your chance of receiving more visits especially when it is embedded into your web page.
On the other hand, the tertiary keywords refer to a group of keywords or keyword phrases that supplement the other two, which main purpose is to cater to website visitors who may use different keywords to search with. Tertiary keywords usually do not exceed more than ten words, and they should be applied behind the secondary keyword in the description of your web page and throughout the page’s content. Always remember, a proper keyword research is the key to your online success.
